Hyundai, the Korean carmaker has showcased the Next-Gen Hyundai Verna Concept Sedan that gives a preview of the 2017 Hyundai Verna, at the ongoing 2016 Beijing Motor Show. The car will is based on the Hyundai popular Fluidic Sculpture Design 2.0 philosophy as most of the company's latest products. The concept model comes with whole new style package as well that resembles largely resembles the new generation Elite i20 in many ways. The concept, however, seems like a near-production model and has a lot of elements that can remain intact.
The 2017 Verna Concept is undoubtedly packed with Hyundai DNA, which is extensively visible from its smooth character line. The coupe-like roofline smoothly flows into an integrated spoiler giving it a sporty silhouette. The headlights of the next-gen Verna concept are reminiscent of the Elite i20. Moreover, the front end exhibits a hexagonal frame with thick mesh-type grille. It merges into the swept-back headlamp and is underlined by an aggressive bumper layout. The sides seem to be toned down a bit and feature an understated shoulder line, twin-five-spoke alloy wheels, and doors similar to the current generation. The rear end of the Verna gets sleek taillamps along and a sporty bumper.
Hyundai hasn't revealed the interior of the next-gen Verna concept , but the car is expected to get a complete makeover. In fact, it might just draw inspiration from its larger sibling, the next-generation Elantra. Additionally, the new Verna is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As far as the engines are concerned, the next-gen Verna will inherit the same set of motors from the existing car. Hyundai could also introduce its 1.0-litre turbo petrol (T-GDI) motor, which it offers in the European version of i20 (Elite i20). This tiny motor will be capable of producing close to 120 horses and 170 Nm of torque. However, there is a possibility of a 6-speed manual option with the petrol version as well, the one we have seen in the Creta.
The Verna has been a very successful product for Hyundai in India in the mid-segment sedan space. It was only last year that the carmaker launched the new facelift version of the car and now it seems the carmaker is gearing up to bring the next generation model as well. We expect the car to be launched in India in the latter part of 2017. Source
