According to recent reports, the 2016 Jaguar XF Sedan was spotted testing in India. First launched back in 2012, the car became quite popular which made the company think about its second generation. Expected launch in India will be no earlier than 2016. The new XF was unveiled at the 2014 New York Auto Show. The car will hit the showrooms in UK around this September. Spotted testing here in India even before its global UK launch hints that the company might launch the sedan little earlier than its expected launch in the country. So, lets check out what the new XF is all about.
The first major change in the new sedan is its structure. The 2nd gen XF is built upon an aluminium-intensive iQ platform. Aluminium means less weight and more strength. The use of aluminium in its chassis and body structure has made the car a whopping 200kg lighter, that's a lot of weight loss! and a lighter car means a faster car. The new body structure has also given new dimensions to the sedan. The car is now 3mm shorter in height and has a 51mm wider wheel base than its out going model. A wider wheel base and reduced height lowers the center of gravity of the car which in turn improves the car's handling and stability. This same principle has been applied to many other cars like the Jaguar XE Saloon, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.
Speaking about the car's exterior, not much has changed in this section. The car still resembles the outgoing model. Except now the shoulder lines are more prominent while the windows and windshield has gained larger area. The car now sports sleeker tail-lamps which looks quite similar to the ones on the F-type. The car will now come with larger 20 inch alloy wheels and larger wheels means improved grip on the road. Featuring the familiar trademark front grille the XF gets slightly refreshed front bumper with same fog-light surrounds. The rear gets shorter overhangs which reduces the length of the car by 7mm, without compromising on the boot space.
Inside, the XF sports a new 3-spoke steering wheel which are again inspired by the F-type. The car has a black dash board with center mounted instrument cluster boasting of its new 12.3 inch TFT screen infotainment system which runs Jaguar's InControl Touch Interface. The cabin gets a little more spacious thanks to its wider wheelbase. A wider wheelbase along with premium seats ensures a comfortable ride.
Under the hood, the Jag will offer multiple engine choices. A new 2litre Ingenium twin turbo V6 diesel engine which in turn offers a choice in power ranging between 163bhp to 300bhp. For petrol heads the car will offer a 2litre 4 cylinder 240 bhp engine or a 3litre supercharged V6 producing 350bhp of max power. When launched the new XF Sedan will come with a price tag of Rs 50 lac and give a stiff competition to Audi's RS6 Avant.
