According to recent reports, Toyota Motor Asia Pacific is developing the next generation Toyota Vios with Indian specifications in mind, and will make its Indian debut in January 2018. Reports also state that Toyota Kirloskar Motor has placed orders for components of its next-generation Vios, which further affirms its introduction in the Indian car market. The Vios will be positioned above the Toyota Etios in India. With the Vios, Toyota wants to target customers in the personal car sector.
Measuring 4,410 mm in length, 1,700 mm in width, and 1,475 mm in height, the new Toyota Vios was spotted testing in Bengaluru India. However, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has not yet confirmed its Indian launch so it's testing here may be a part of Toyota's global validation program. The sedan is sold in about 80 countries, and Toyota’s Thai manufacturing facility serves as an export hub for the Vios.
The new Toyota Vios sedan employs Toyota’s latest design language, similar to the Corolla Altis. It’s clearly more aggressively styled than Toyota's earlier sedans. Unlike other Japanese sedans in the segment like the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz, which have similar styling and profile, the Vios has a very distinct design. The front is wide and low, giving it an aggressive stance. The prominent chrome strip on the sleek grille, a set of upswept headlights and a large hexagonal air dam adds to the sporty scheme. The side profile and rear design are equally appealing with a prominent shoulder line and sharp design of the tail lamps. Source
The Indian version of the new Toyota Vios is expected to carry a dual tone, black and beige dashboard. The interiors resemble the one seen on its elder sibling Toyota Corolla Altis. The cabin is said to have plenty of smart storage space and cubby holes, including useable door pockets. Apart from that, Vios also comes packed with features like a touchscreen infotainment system and automatic gearbox option on the top-of-the-line variants. Toyota will also offer the new Vios with top class quality, materials and finish. Via
Powering the Vios is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine borrowed from the Etios compact sedan capable of generating 107.5 hp at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm at 4,200 rpm. A 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic are the transmissions of choice. Reports also suggest that Toyota might also fit the Vios with a 1.4-litre D-4D diesel engine which powers the Corolla Altis. Keeping in mind that the engine units give a fuel economy of close to 15kmpl for the petrol and 20kmpl for the diesel variant.
Pricing will be key, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has to price the new Vios aggressively between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 10 lakh if it wants to compete against rivals like Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. Some other features that the Toyota Vios will be offered with, in India will include, ABS, dual airbags, a smart entry system, projector headlamps, automatic climate control, a push start system, a theft deterrent system, an immobilizer and an Eco meter.
