Skoda Auto India Private Limited (SAIPL) finally launched the much anticipated 2016 Superb Sedan priced at Rs 22.68 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) for the base variant. The newly launched model is the updated version of the flagship sedan of the Czech automobile manufacturer. The new Skoda Superb in its latest avatar features a new design based on the VisionC concept car which was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show 2014, the car has been built on the VW Group's MQB platform, which also underpins the Audi A3 and the Skoda Octavia.
Talking about the exterior, the new Skoda Superb gets a sharper design that looks modern, current and much sportier than ever before. The new car, in line with Skoda's new design language, the new Skoda Superb too gets a butterfly grille up front and on either side of it are the Bi-Xenon headlights with Daytime Running Lights. In profile and at the back too, the edgy design continues well with LED tail lamps and 17-inch wheels wrapping the car up nicely. The new model is 75 kilograms lighter than the predecessor. The third generation measures 4861mm in length, 1864mm in width and 1468mm in height with 80mm increased wheelbase.
On the inside, the Skoda Superb gets an all-new feature-laden interior and more space than before, the width of the rear seat has been increased by 69mm and that has resulted in more cabin space. The extra space is because of the fact that the new Superb is based on the new Volkswagen MQB platform, which ensures maximum utilization of the car's wheelbase. Other features like, leather seats and a touchscreen infotainment system come as standard. The new Superb flaunts segment leading features such as three-zone climate control, 12-way adjustable front seats, 6.5-inch infotainment system with Smartlink functionality than can be paired to IOS and Android phones.
Additionally, the new car features a rear-view camera, driver alert function, 12 speakers with 600w output, panoramic sunroof and 625 litres of boot capacity. On the safety front, the car packs ABS with Electronic Stability Programme(ESP), multi-collision brake and eight airbags.
Under the hood, the Skoda Superb gets both petrol (TSI) and diesel (TDI) units. The 1.8-litre TSI unit generates 180PS of maximum power and 320Nm of peak torque for the manual gearbox version. The automatic variant will have the same engine mated to a 6-speed DSG box and will churn out 180PS of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque. The diesel unit, on the other hand, makes 177PS and 350Nm from a 2.0-litre mill. Where the petrol gets both a manual and an automatic gearbox, the diesel will only get the 6-speed DSG automatic option. Source
