BMW 3-Series Facelift Launched in India

German luxury carmaker BMW today launched an updated version of its diesel-powered BMW 3 Series sedan in India, with prices starting at INR 35.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The automaker is currently offering its smallest luxury sedan only in the diesel trim, whereas the petrol variant will be launched later in the year. The automaker has also introduced the new M Sport trim on the 3-Series facelift which is armed with the M aerodynamic package, an M leather steering wheel, front sports seats and Driving Experience Control switch with additional Sport+ mode. The new 3 Series is locally produced at the BMW plant in Chennai and can be ordered at dealerships across India from today onwards, BMW India said in a statement. The new model will be available at all authorised dealerships in four variants to choose from viz., Prestige, Sport Line, Luxury Line, and M Sport, with 8 colours options on offer including: Alpine White as non-metallic colour and Black Sapphire, Platinum Silver, Jatoba, Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect, Melbourne Red, Mediterranean Blue and Estoril Blue as metallic colours.


Talking about the exterior, the updated BMW 3-Series gets only mild cosmetic changes. The revised design of the new BMW 3 Series has the distinctively shaped lengthy bonnet which bears the new LED headlights and LED fog lamps giving the sedan a sporting appearance. The rear tail lamps also receive the LED treatment with an ‘L’ shaped configuration. The front and rear bumpers of the new 3 Series are re-styled by incorporating broader side air intakes which gives the sedan a wider look. Also new are the 17-inch alloy wheels that now carry a different design.

The cabin retains its overall layout but gets new materials, chrome highlights, high gloss surfaces and ambient lighting. In terms of features, the BMW 3-Series facelift is updated with a Heads Up Display (HUD) unit with 3D graphics; Park Assistant feature that allows the sedan to parallel park automatically and the new Navigation system Professional (integrated GPS) with an 8.8-inch high-resolution display available in Sports Line, Luxury Line and M Sport variants. Coming to the new M Sport package on the BMW 3-Series, the sporty variant adds the M aerodynamic package, M leather steering wheel and upholstered seats. The 320d M Sport is available in an exclusive Estoril Blue metallic colour.


Other features remain the same with the BMW ConnectedDrive, BMW Apps, Radio Professional, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, electrically adjustable front seats and a lot more. The new 3 Series continues to feature various amenities from the previous model like Auto Start-Stop, ECO PRO mode, Brake-Energy Regeneration, Electronic Power Steering, and many other innovative technologies. On the tech front, the German manufacturer has equipped the facelifted 3 Series with the new BMW Navigation System Professional which has an 8.8inch high-resolution display in the centre console. The new feature is available only in the Sports Line, Luxury Line and M Sport variants. 


Talking about the powertrain, the new BMW 3-Series is currently available only with a single diesel engine with power coming from a 1995cc four-cylinder, TwinPower Turbo diesel engine with power updated to 190hp while developing 400Nm of torque between 1750-2500rpm and is paired to the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Except for the Prestige, all other variants will have manual paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel.


The new BMW 320d does the 0-100 km/hr in 7.2 seconds and has a top speed of 230 km/hr. The Bavarian automaker continues to offer five driving modes on the new 3-Series including ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+; while features like Auto Start Stop, Eco Pro mode and Brake Energy Regeneration help achieve a decent fuel economy figure.
