Bentley has finally launched its much-anticipated first production SUV, the Bentayga, in India on 22 April with a starting price of around Rs 3.85 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Volkswagen-owned British handcrafted luxury carmaker, Bentley, first unveiled the Bentayga Luxury SUV at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Bentley proudly claims that the Bentayga is not only the most expensive SUV in the world but also the fastest. The ultra-luxury SUV space, once dominated by just a handful of players, is now a heavily coveted segment for some of the world’s top brands, including Maserati, Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini. Even Rolls-Royce, the venerable doyen of the automotive world, is testing the waters with its “Project Cullinan.”
The Bentayga's styling, typically Bentley, comprises large matrix grille, four distinctive floating all-LED headlamps, B-shaped wing vents, skid plate integrated into the lower section of the front bumper at the front. The power line and muscular rear haunch display the Bentley Bentayga's flexed side profile. At the rear, within the segmented tail lights, a new 'B'-shaped illumination graphic is incorporated that affords the Bentayga an instantly recognisable and striking night-time signature.
Designed, engineered and handcrafted in Crewe, the Bentayga is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine that develops 600bhp along with a maximum torque of 900Nm. The SUV gets permanent All-Wheel Drive and comes paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Bentley Bentayga can achieve 0-100Km/h in just 4.1 seconds on its way to a top-speed of 301Km/h - which effectively makes it both, the world's most powerful and fastest SUV.
Bentley Bentayga's list of standard provisions includes full-leather interior, split-folding heated rear 4+1 seats, heated, acoustic IR front screen and acoustic side glass, panoramic tilt/ slide sunroof with electric blind, 8" touch-screen infotainment system with 60GB HDD, navigation, voice control with text-to-speech, AMI, CD, MP3, and SD cards. Furthermore, the SUV also gets speed sensitive, variable ratio electric power steering, full LED adaptive headlamps with high beam assist, hill descent control, and Drive Dynamics mode, etc. There are also 12 exterior ultrasonic sensors, five cameras with a composite top view, long and short-distance radar, traffic sign recognition, night vision, head-up display and park assist, which works with a trailer attached. The Android tablets delivering rear-seat video can be removed from behind the front headrests for full computer functionality. Source
